Boats and varnish Lignu Impregnating resin information

When one speaks about epoxy one has to differentiate between common epoxy or other kinds of resins such as polyester and Lignu® Impregnating resin.

Traditional epoxy or other resins are thick and will prevent air circulation and won´t allow the wood to breathe. This has caused many people to refrain form using epoxy since problems can develop in the wood under the epoxy that are not discovered due to the epoxy.

Lignu® Impregnating resin is an epoxy manufactured from resins mainly derived from wood. This is very thin (it runs like water) and will penetrate the wood deeper than any other product we know of. It has the best durability and protective ability we have ever experienced and it allows the wood to breathe. Its biggest advantage is its ability to penetrate the end section of wood, cracks between planks and so on, where rot and bacterial infestations start.

Lignu® Impregnating resin is more expensive than other epoxy resins that are manufactured from petrochemical products, but has a better bonding with the wood and is stronger and more flexible.

Lignu® Impregnating resin is a clear epoxy and seals better than any other product we have tested.

Now there is a modern way of improving the surface protection your boat needs in order to ride through all the various conditions of the climate and environment.

Boat owners spend a lot of time on scraping, sanding and varnishing their boats. But the varnish gets dull after a year or even 6 months, it cracks, peels and comes off and one has to sand it all off the next spring and start all over again.

Lignu® Impregnating resin is a deeply active impregnating resin that protects against rot and gives the varnish a superior bonding with wood.

Wood contains water. Varnish is based on oil. Water and oil don't mix so the varnish can not get a optimum bonding with the wood. Lignu® Impregnating resin, however, dissolves water and cures with the wood. At the same time Lignu® Impregnating resin has the ability to chemically bond with the varnish. Lignu® Impregnating resin is very flexible so when something impacts with the varnish it will not crack, but will stay bonded with the Lignu® Impregnating resin which is chemically bonded with the wood. The point of damage will stay intact. It will not develop dark spots and the wood will not swell so the varnish cracks and peels.
The only "damage" is usually a small, almost invisible dent in the wood. It takes a lot longer for Lignu® Impregnating resin to break down due to UV rays, than it takes for wood fibres. This means the wood fibres will not age as fast due to UV rays since Lignu® Impregnating resin is chemically bonded with the wood.
